A holiday tradition: Michos family continues free Thanksgiving dinners in honor of Cottage Inn founder

The linens will be laid out and silverware placed ever so delicately in preparation for the Thanksgiving tradition. A couple of hundred people will walk through the doors to the smells of turkey and warm pumpkin pie.

For the Michos family, hosting Thanksgiving at their restaurant - The Original Cottage Inn in Ann Arbor - is a tradition that has been in place for more than 30 years. But a big piece of that tradition will be missing Thursday: the patriarch of the family.

Nicholas Michos died in June at the age of 83, and Thursday will mark the first Thanksgiving when he won't be part of dinner at his restaurant that he opened in the 1960s.

But rather than dwell on his absence, Jim Michos - one of Nicholas' three sons and the current owner of the restaurant - and his family will once again host Thanksgiving dinner for anyone who wants to stop by.
