Orlando Recognizes Women’s History Month

WHEREAS, March 2016 has been declared as National Women’s History Month to honor the role that American women have played and continue to play in the economic, cultural and social development of our Nation; and

WHEREAS, American women make up a significant portion of the labor force, working as elected officials, CEOs, small business owners, entrepreneurs and homemakers who provide leadership, guidance and support of the values which strengthen our economy and provide for the well being of our families; and

WHEREAS, the women in the City of Orlando are unique leaders and exceptional role models in all professions and have distinguished themselves as smart and wise business owners, creating jobs, paying wages and demonstrating that they are a positive force in our local communities and neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, women business owners, such as those in the hospitality industry, provide career opportunities for many women from every race, class and ethnic background who are seeking their first job and through their efforts, the lives of their employees and families are shaped in a positive manner; and

WHEREAS, women business owners, despite the many risks and personal sacrifices they encounter, continue to be inspirations to their families, employees and the community and whose success stories we can learn to emulate; and

WHEREAS, when women succeed, our nation, our state, our region and our city succeeds; and their potential should only be limited only breadth their dreams;

NOW, THEREFORE, WE, Buddy Dyer, Mayor of the City of Orlando; Jim Gray, District 1 City Commissioner; Tony Ortiz, District 2 City Commissioner; Robert F. Stuart, District 3 City Commissioner; Patty Sheehan, District 4 City Commissioner; Regina I. Hill, District 5 City Commissioner, and Samuel B. Ings, District 6 City Commissioner, hereby do proclaim March 2016 as

“Women’s History Month”

in the City of Orlando, to recognize the many accomplishments and contributions made by American women, and encourage all residents to learn more about the generations of women who have played such an important role in our history.
