Teacher pay was hit hard in North Carolina after last year's budget passed, but one Onslow County restaurant owner is trying to help. The White Oak River Bistro is giving back to educators through something called Family Night."The community's been very, very generous to me and my business, and I wanted to give back," owner and chef Gene Heathsaid said.Every Wednesday night since March, the restaurant has served up family-style meals. "We do family-friendly food, at family-friendly prices," Heath said.A portion of all the proceeds go to a grant program Heath set up for area teachers called "Success is Served!""I've always believed in education and teachers and been involved in my daughter's education, so we thought of family night," Heath said.
