Restaurant industry offers flexibility for women

One day Katie (not her real name), a 22-year-old woman, approached me and told me she wasn’t sure if she could work at our restaurant anymore. Her mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Katie was anxious about balancing caring for her mother and her job at the restaurant. I reassured her, “You can do both.”

Women like Katie are the reason I am proud to be a woman in this industry. Because of the flexibility of restaurant jobs, people like Katie can focus on their most important priority, their family, and still earn an income. Later, as a business, we were able to support Katie’s family by making annual corporate donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
