The Restaurant Industry Celebrates Women’s History Month 2016

The National Restaurant Association is proud to celebrate the women of the restaurant industry this month and throughout the year.

With more women in management and ownership positions than virtually any other industry, restaurants offer a career path with no glass ceiling.

This includes amazing women like Mirta Gutierrez and Emily Biederman. Mirta started as a dishwasher and now is an Executive Chef at one of Washington, D.C.’s hottest restaurants. Emily started as a hostess for some extra money while she was in college and is now the Chief Operating Officer and Secret Sauce F&B in Colorado.

Restaurants provide opportunities to women of all ages and at all stages of their careers, from students to retirees and servers to owners. In fact, sixty-one percent of adult women have worked in a restaurant at some point in their life, and 37% got their first job in a restaurant.

Throughout the month, we will be posting stories and other news about women who are making major strides in the industry, which you can find here
