Turner's Mercantile and Café continues Dotty's tradition

When Linda and Brian Turner took over one of Hartsburg’s two restaurants, they knew they would be responsible for more than just serving food.

“It’s such a small community. There’s really nothing besides the post office. It’s a gathering place,” Linda Turner said of the restaurant.

Dotty’s Café opened 10 years ago and became a community gathering place. Customers would drive in from nearby communities, and people biking on the Katy Trail often stopped in. When Dotty Manns decided to retire last year, she chose to hand the reins to her niece Linda Turner and Turner’s husband, Brian.

The couple did some renovations during three weeks in December during which the restaurant was closed. Then, at the end of February, they changed the name to Turner’s Mercantile and Café.
