Rauh, 29, of Germantown, along with her sister Becca Rauh and mother Susan Rauh, were among the shoppers who went to mom and pop stores across Louisville and Southern Indiana on Small Business Saturday, an initiative started in 2010 by credit card company American Express that has since been adopted in communities nationwide.

Rauh said she prefers shopping in small, local stores rather than big-box retailers with larger crowds, adding the event seemed better publicized this year.

"It's good for the city," Rauh said. "And it's good for my mental state."
